Hey all, I'm about to start clearing some overgrown brush and small trees. I've got a chainsaw, but I'm wondering if I really need the chaps. They're expensive and bulky. Thoughts? Also, what about safety glasses vs goggles? I usually just use my regular glasses.

Dude, don't even think about skipping the chaps. I've seen what a chainsaw can do to denim in a split second. My buddy Ed lost a chunk of thigh because he thought he was careful. Spend the money, get the chaps. And get goggles that seal around your eyes—regular glasses won't stop sawdust or a flying twig. Trust me.

I feel you on the cost, Steve. I found a cheap pair on Amazon for like $30. They're not top-tier, but better than nothing. Also, check harbor freight for some safety goggles. I got a pair for $5. Better safe than sorry, man.

I'm just an apprentice, but my boss always says 'dress for the slide, not the ride'. He makes us wear chaps, helmet with mesh visor, and ear pro. It's annoying but I've seen him kick a tree and the saw jumped back. Coulda been his leg. So yeah, get the PPE.

Alright, you guys convinced me. I'll grab some chaps and proper goggles. Better safe than sorry. Thanks!
