DeWalt vs Makita for Lawn Mowers: Which One Cuts It?

Hey all, I'm in the market for a new self-propelled lawn mower. I've been a dewalt guy for years for my drills and impact drivers, but I'm hearing makita makes a solid mower too. I've got a small yard, but I do side jobs for some clients with bigger lawns. Need some advice on which one to go with. Any experience with either?

I've used both on job sites, but for mowers, I'd lean toward Makita. Their 36V (18Vx2) mower is a beast, and the build quality is top-notch. DeWalt's mower is decent, but I've seen more issues with the drive system. Plus, Makita's batteries seem to hold up better over time in my experience. You can't go wrong with Makita for lawn care.

Hold on, Rick. I've got to chime in on safety. Whatever brand you choose, make sure the blade brake engages quickly and the handle is comfortable. I've seen too many DIYers with sketchy mowers that kick back. But as for the brands, I've used the DeWalt 20V max mower and it did fine for my small yard. Battery life was enough for a single cut. Just keep your blades sharp and check the oil if it's gas, but most here are going electric.

I'm a professional landscaper, and I've run Makita for years. The 36V mower is my go-to for residential jobs. It's got plenty of torque for thick grass, and the self-propelled drive doesn't strain. The mulching capability is impressive. I haven't used the DeWalt mower, but I've seen some contractors in my area switch from DeWalt to Makita for their outdoor power equipment because of reliability. Just my two cents, but I'd invest in the Makita, even if it costs a bit more upfront.
