Just wanted to share a quick reminder after seeing a guy at the big box store last weekend – wear your damn ear protection when running a leaf blower! I’ve been in the game 20+ years and my tinnitus is no joke. Get some decent muffs or plugs, your future self will thank you.

Thanks Hank! I’m new to all this – what would you recommend for a weekend warrior? I’m currently using the foamies but they never seem to stay in when I’m sweating.

Tim – get yourself some over-ear muffs with a high NRR. I always look for at least 25 dB. Also, don’t forget eye pro for string trimmers! A flying rock to the eyeball is a bad time.

Rick’s right Tim. Muffs are easier for quick on/off. I use the 3M Peltor X5A – they’re bulky but quiet as a church mouse. And if you wear glasses, make sure the muffs seal around the arms.

Good stuff guys. I’m gonna order some muffs today. My neighbors probably think I’m crazy for wearing earplugs to mow, but whatever.
