Don't Skip the PPE: My Brush Cutter Almost Got Me!

Hey everyone, just had a close call today with my brush cutter. Was clearing some thick brush and a piece of debris shot up and hit my safety glasses - cracked them right in front of my eye. If I hadn't been wearing them, I'd probably be typing this with one eye. Seriously, don't skimp on PPE. Get a good pair of ANSI-rated glasses or a full-face shield if you're doing heavy cutting. And ear protection is a must too - these things are loud!

Yikes! Glad you're okay! I always wear my safety glasses but never thought about a face shield for brush cutters. Might have to invest in one. Do you have any recommendations? I've seen some that attach to hard hats, but not sure which are good.

Man, that's a wake-up call. I'm just a hobbyist but I do a lot of clearing on my property. I always wear boots and gloves but I've been lazy about eye protection on smaller jobs. Not anymore. Thanks for sharing. BTW, check out the ones with anti-fog coating, they're a lifesaver in summer heat.

Good reminder. I had a similar thing happen with a weed eater - hit a rock and it dinged my shin even with jeans on. Can't imagine that in the eye. Also, make sure your gear fits properly. I had safety glasses that kept slipping off when I sweat, which is just as dangerous. Found some with rubber grips and they stay put.
