Hey everyone, I was mowing my lawn this morning and hit a rock pretty hard. Now the blade won’t spin at all. The engine runs fine but the blade just sits there. I have a Toro Recycler (2018 model). Any ideas what’s wrong?

Sounds like you might have sheared the flywheel key or bent the crankshaft. If it’s a walk-behind, also check the blade adapter. Toros have a plastic key that can snap to protect the engine. Pull the spark plug, remove the blade, and inspect the flywheel key. If it’s a clean break, replace it. If not, keep reading.

I second Rick. Flywheel key is the most common. But also check if the blade is jammed against the deck. Sometimes the impact bends the blade and it gets stuck. Loosen the blade bolt and see if the blade moves freely.

Don’t forget to check the pulley on the engine shaft. I had a similar issue and the key was fine but the pulley had cracked. Also, make sure the blade brake isn’t engaged if it’s an older model with a blade brake clutch. OP, let us know what you find!

Thanks guys! I’ll check the flywheel key first. I’ll update once I get the blade off.
