PSA: Don't Skip Safety Glasses When Mowing!

Hey all, just wanted to share a tip after a close call this weekend. I was mowing my lawn and a small rock flew up and hit my safety glasses. It left a nice scratch but thankfully my eye was fine. Can't stress enough how important it is to wear eye protection when mowing. I know it's easy to skip it on a sunny day, but it's not worth the risk. Get a good pair of ANSI-approved glasses, they're cheap insurance.

Couldn't agree more, DrillMaster! I always wear my full face shield when I'm using the string trimmer, because those things throw debris like crazy. My neighbor didn't wear anything and got a piece of wire in his cheek. Ouch! I've also started wearing ear protection too, my mower is loud and I want to keep my hearing.

Great advice. I learned that lesson the hard way years ago. A piece of glass hit me right below the eye - lucky it wasn't worse. Now I wear a pair of those wrap-around safety glasses that look almost like sunglasses. They're so comfortable I forget I have them on. Also, check your mower deck for loose bolts and stuff before starting - that can cause things to fly.

Good point about checking the deck, FixItFelix. I also make sure to clear the lawn of any sticks or stones before I start. And for those who wear prescription glasses, you can get actual safety glasses with your prescription, which is a game changer. I know some guys who wear goggles over their glasses, but that fogs up - not helpful when you're trying to see where you're going!

Haha, true about the fogging. I used to do that. My wife got me a pair of prescription safety glasses for my birthday - best gift ever. They even have a little tint for sunny days. And they're not that expensive if you order from one of those online glasses stores. Definitely worth it.
