PSA: Don't Skip the Safety Glasses When Mowing!

Just had a close call yesterday. Was mowing the lawn and a small rock flew up and hit my safety glasses. It left a nice chip in the lens. If I hadn't been wearing them, that would've been my eye. Seriously, always wear your PPE, even for a quick mow. Those little stones can turn into projectiles real quick.

Good reminder, Mike. I'm guilty of skipping them sometimes when it's hot and humid. But you're right, better safe than sorry. I once got hit in the cheek with a piece of mulch from a string trimmer. That hurt enough, can't imagine an eye injury.

Yep, and make sure they're actually safety rated (ANSI Z87+). I've seen folks wear regular sunglasses or those cheapo clear glasses from the dollar store, and they shatter on impact. Spend a few bucks on a decent pair. Also, ear protection is important too! Lawn mowers are loud.

Any recommendations for safety glasses that don't fog up? I sweat a lot when mowing and mine fog up something fierce. I've tried the anti-fog wipes but they wear off.

I use a pair with a small built-in fan, but those can be pricey. Otherwise, look for ones with good ventilation around the lenses. Some of the mesh/goggle style ones for sports work too. Or just take them off for a sec to wipe them, but make sure you're not near the mower when you do it!
