Hey everyone, I'm building a composite deck in my backyard and I'm stuck on cutting the boards. I've got a circular saw but my neighbor said I should use a miter saw instead? Which one gives cleaner cuts on this stuff? It's that Trex-like material, kinda slippery. Don't wanna mess up the edges since it's visible. Thanks!

Debbie, seen this go wrong too many times. Circular saw works IF you use a fine-tooth blade (80+ teeth) and clamp everything down. But honestly, for consistent cuts, a sliding compound miter saw is your friend. Home Inspector pro-tip: composite dust is nasty - wear a mask and cut outdoors. SawStop makes a good one but pricey.

Miter saw all day. Circular saw will chip the edges unless you're perfect with it. I use a 12" DeWalt slider on composite trim jobs. Make sure blade is sharp - dull blade will melt the material. And go slow, let the blade do the work.

Ha, at least you're not cutting metal duct! But yeah, what Chris said. My buddy used a jigsaw once on composite... looked like a beaver went at it. Harbor Freight has decent miter saws under $200 if you're not using it daily. Just check the fence is square.

Thanks guys! Miter saw it is. Gonna rent one from the big box store this weekend. Chris - good call on the sharp blade, I would've used my old one. Paul, lol at the beaver comment. Appreciate the help!
