Tuna can test for lawn care? Anyone tried this?

Just read that article about the tuna can test. Sounds like a neat trick to measure water depth. Has anyone actually done this? Seems like a lot of work for something my rain gauge already does.

I've been using the tuna can method for years! It's more accurate than a rain gauge because it measures distribution too. I place 4 cans around my lawn and check after watering. If any can is less than 1/2 inch, I know my sprinklers need adjusting. Precision matters in lawn care, folks.

Sounds like overkill to me. I just eyeball it. But hey, whatever floats your boat. I'd rather spend that time on my tools. Speaking of which, anyone got a good deal on a zero-turn mower?

Thanks MakitaMike, that makes sense. I might try it this weekend. HammerHank, I saw a Toro at Home Depot for 20% off. Might be worth a look.
