DeWalt vs Makita Laser Measures: Which One's More Accurate?

Alright folks, I'm in the market for a new laser measure. I've narrowed it down to the DeWalt DW03050 and the Makita LD050P. I do a lot of trim work and need something that's spot-on. I've heard mixed things about both. Anyone have real-world experience with either? I'm leaning towards the Makita for the smaller form factor, but DeWalt's been solid for me in the past. Give me your takes!

I've been using the Makita LD050P for about a year now for cabinet installs. It's been dead reliable and the accuracy is stellar - I've checked it against my tape and it's always within 1/16" over 10 feet. Also, the backlit display is a lifesaver in tight spots. My buddy has the DeWalt and he's had zero complaints, but the Makita just feels more comfortable in the hand. If you can, try them both out at a store and see which one you like.

I'll throw my 2 cents in. I do a mix of electrical and some finish work. I picked up the DeWalt DW03050 last year on sale. It's been accurate for me, but honestly, I don't notice a huge difference between it and the Makita when I've used both. The thing that sold me on the DeWalt was the IP54 rating - it's a bit more dust and water resistant, and I've dropped it a few times without issues. Also, it uses standard AA batteries which is convenient. Just my experience.

Thanks for the input! Sparks, you mentioned the IP54 rating - that's a good point. I do a fair bit of outdoor work too, so that might matter. Steve, you're right about trying them in person. I think I'll hit up the big box store this weekend and see which one feels better. Also, does anyone have experience with the Bluetooth connectivity on either? I'm thinking about using it with a layout app.

I've used the Bluetooth on the Makita with the Measure app. It's handy for recording measurements and getting a live readout on your phone. It also allows you to do indirect measurements, like calculating area and volume, which is nice. It does drain the battery a bit faster when it's on, but not a dealbreaker. I think the DeWalt also has a similar app, but I haven't tried it. Honestly, if you're just doing straight measurements, you can't go wrong with either.
