Hey everyone,
I'm in the market for a new tape measure and possibly a laser distance meter. I've narrowed it down to DeWalt and Makita because I already have batteries for both systems. But I'm torn!
For tape measures, I've heard DeWalt's auto-lock is great, but Makita's standout is supposed to be super durable. For laser measures, DeWalt seems more popular, but Makita has some cool features.
Anyone have experience with both? Which brand do you trust more for measuring tools? I mainly do DIY around the house and some woodworking projects.
Thanks!

I've been a DeWalt guy for years, and their tape measures are solid. The auto-lock on the 25ft is a game-changer – no more tape snapping back. But honestly, for laser measures, I think Makita is catching up. Their new 262 ft laser is pretty accurate. Still, I'd stick with DeWalt for consistency if you already have their batteries. Just my 2 cents.

I collect both brands, and here's my take: DeWalt tape measures are more ergonomic, but Makita's are tougher in my experience. I dropped my Makita tape from a ladder onto concrete, and it still works perfectly. The DeWalt one cracked the case. For lasers, DeWalt's 165 ft is great for indoor use, but Makita's 262 ft has a better range for outdoor projects. If you're doing a lot of DIY, either will work. But if you want durability, go Makita. If you want features and app connectivity, DeWalt wins.

Thanks for the replies! I think I'll go with Makita for the tape measure and DeWalt for the laser. That way I get the best of both worlds. But wait, does Makita's laser work with DeWalt batteries? No, right? So I'd need to carry both batteries. Hmm, maybe I should just pick one brand to keep it simple.

Yeah, you can't mix batteries. If you want simplicity, just go all DeWalt. Their tape measures are good enough, and the laser is top-notch. Plus, their customer service is great if anything goes wrong. I've had my DeWalt tape for 5 years and it's still going strong. Don't overthink it!
