DeWalt vs Makita: Which brand makes the best tape measure? Need help deciding!

Hey everyone, I'm in the market for a new tape measure and I'm stuck between DeWalt and Makita. I've always used whatever was cheap, but now I want something that'll last. I mainly do woodworking projects and some home DIY. I've heard DeWalt's auto-lock is great, but Makita's magnetic tip is a game-changer. What's your experience? Which one should I get? Also, does the blade standout matter that much? I'm tired of my tape flopping over at 6 feet!

DeWalt's auto-lock is convenient, but I've found the locking mechanism can wear out over time if you're rough with it. Makita's magnetic tip is nice for holding onto metal, but it can attract metal shavings in the shop, which is a pain. For standout, neither is exceptional—you'll get maybe 7-8 feet before it buckles. If you want real standout, check out Tajima or Stanley FatMax. But between the two, I'd lean Makita for the build quality, especially the spring. Just my two cents.
