Heart rate detection in Toyotas? What's next, measuring my blood pressure with a hammer?

Just saw this article about Toyota patenting a heart rate detection device for vehicles. Sounds like overkill to me. I mean, who needs that? Probably add another $2k to the price tag. Give me a good old tape measure any day. Thoughts?

Interesting but I bet the tolerances are way off. Heart rate sensors are finicky. Reminds me of those laser distance measurers that drift 1/16" on a 50' run. I'll stick with my Mitutoyo calipers for precision, thanks.

Seen similar tech in concept cars. For fleet management, could be useful to monitor driver fatigue. But for a DIYer? Not so much. I'm more excited about the new Bosch radar measuring tool that came out last month.

Restoration work, this is a non-starter. I need to feel the heartbeat of an old house, not a car. Give me a stud finder and a level. But I guess if you're into modding cars, could be a fun project to repurpose the sensor for something else.
