Measuring Tape Safety: Avoid the 'Whiplash'

Hey guys, I was using my measuring tape today and it slipped, slapping my hand pretty good. Got a nice red mark. Just a reminder to always let the tape retract slowly, especially with longer extensions. Safety first!

Haha, been there! I've got a scar on my thumb from a tape recoil. Now I always wear gloves when measuring, plus a good pair of safety glasses. Those blades can fling debris too.

Good tip. I also make sure the locking mechanism is in good shape. A faulty lock is a recipe for a snap. I've seen guys get cut pretty bad. Also, don't use a tape as a whip, obviously.

Exactly. Another thing - never leave a tape extended when you're walking around, especially on a job site. That's a tripping hazard and can cause the tape to snap and injure someone. And hey, if you're using a laser measure, still wear eye pro.

True. I actually dropped my tape from a ladder once and it hit concrete - chipped the end hook. Replaced it right away. Takes accurate measurements for granted? Nope. Check your tools, fellas.
