Hey guys, got a problem with my XDT14 impact. It was working fine this morning, then on the third screw it just stopped spinning. Trigger still works, battery is charged, but it stalls as soon as it meets resistance. Tried different batteries and same thing. Any ideas before I send it in for repair?

Classic sign of the anvil or hammer mechanism binding. Have you noticed any odd noises before it stalls? Could be a broken cam or worn out grease. Try running it in reverse at full speed for 10 seconds—sometimes that frees up debris. If not, it's likely internal damage.

Also check the collet for debris. I had a piece of grit in mine causing similar issues. Also make sure the bit isn't worn or bent. But Mike's right, if it's internal you'll probs need a rebuild.

I'd say pop off the anvil retaining ring and inspect the hammer cage. These newer impacts have plastic bits that can crack. If you're under warranty, just send it in. I've had good luck with Makita service.

+1 on the warranty route. They'll replace the whole hammer case usually. But if you're out of warranty, Dave's trick of running it reverse saved my ass once. Worth a shot.
