Milwaukee vs DeWalt laser levels - which holds up better on job sites?

Hey all, looking to upgrade my laser level setup. I'm torn between the Milwaukee M12 RedLithium line and DeWalt's 20V MAX models. I do mostly interior trim and cabinetry work, but need something that can handle occasional outdoor use for decks. Anyone have real-world experience with both? I've heard Milwaukee has better battery life but DeWalt's green beam is easier to see. Looking for daily user feedback, not just spec sheets!

As an HVAC guy, I've beat the crap out of both. Milwaukee's M12 3-plane laser has been my daily for 2 years now - still holds calibration even after getting knocked off pipes multiple times. The magnetic base is clutch for ductwork. Tried my buddy's DeWalt DW089LG last month - green beam IS brighter in daylight, but the battery dies faster when you're running it all day in crawl spaces. Milwaukee feels more rugged, but if you're mostly indoors, DeWalt's visibility might win. Just my 2 cents.

30-year GC here. Both are solid, but it depends on your abuse level. DeWalt's warranty service is faster when (not if) you drop it off a second-story deck. Milwaukee's repair network isn't as widespread in rural areas where I work. That said, Milwaukee's RedLithium batteries last through freezing temps better - important for early morning layouts. Pro tip: Buy whichever brand matches your existing battery ecosystem. Swapping batteries between tools saves more time than any laser feature.

Landscape architect perspective: For outdoor grading and retaining walls, DeWalt's green beam wins hands down. Even in partial sun, I can still see it 100ft out. Milwaukee's red beam disappears past 50ft on bright days. BUT... Milwaukee's dust/water resistance is legit. I've left mine out in rain overnight (oops) and it still worked. DeWalt's IP rating is good but not bulletproof. If you're doing decks, get the DeWalt for visibility, but keep it in the case when not in use.

Thanks everyone! This is exactly the real-world stuff I needed. Sounds like DeWalt for visibility but Milwaukee for durability. Since I already have M12 batteries for my impact driver, I'm leaning Milwaukee. ToolTimeTim - good call on battery ecosystem, that sealed it for me. Appreciate the crawl space and weather insights too!
