Tuna can test for lawn watering? Anyone tried this?

Just saw this article about the tuna can test for watering your lawn. Sounds like a simple way to measure how much water you're putting down. I usually just eyeball it, but my lawn has patches. Anyone use this method?

Yeah, the tuna can trick is old school but it works. I've been using it for years. Just set out a few empty tuna cans while you're running the sprinklers, and when they're full, you know you've put down about an inch of water. Helps prevent overwatering and runoff. Good for deep root growth too.

I've used it once or twice. Problem is, if you have uneven sprinkler coverage, the cans fill at different rates. You gotta move them around to get an average. But it's a cheap way to check your system. Better than killing your lawn with too much or too little water.

Good point about coverage. I'll try it this weekend. My sprinklers are old, probably need adjustment anyway. Thanks guys!
