Tuna Can Test: Hype or Useful?

I've been in the landscaping game for 15 years. The tuna can test is legit. It's a simple way to measure how much water your sprinkler puts out. Just place a few tuna cans around the lawn, run the sprinkler for a set time, and see how deep the water is. Aim for about an inch per week. It's not rocket science but it works. It has saved customers' lawns from overwatering.

I tried it last year out of curiosity. Honestly, it's a bit gimmicky but it gave me a ballpark figure for my sprinkler output. I ended up adjusting my watering schedule and my lawn looked better than ever. Probably because I was watering too much before. So yeah, it's a cheap way to check your sprinkler uniformity. I just used a few empty soup cans instead of tuna.

I don't trust that test. Too many variables. Wind, evaporation, different soil types. I stick to smart irrigation controllers that adjust based on weather and soil moisture. It's the only way to go. Snake oil, I say.
