Best pliers for building a deck? Need to save my hands!

Hey all, I'm starting a 16x20 deck next week and my old pliers are shot. Need to pull some stubborn nails and twist a few wire ties. What's a good all-around pair that won't break the bank? My hands ain't what they used to be, so something with good grips is a plus.

If you're on a budget, Harbor Freight's got a set of pliers that'll do the job for under $20. I've used them on jobsites and they hold up fine for occasional use. Just don't expect them to last forever. Also, get a decent pair of linesman's pliers - they're great for twisting wire and pulling nails with the side cutter.

I disagree with cheaping out on pliers. For a deck, you're gonna be pulling a lot of nails, so get something with replaceable jaws or a nail puller built in. I use Channellock 430s - they've got a nice gripping zone and the handles are comfortable. They're a bit pricier but worth it if you value your fingers.

Haha, Carl's always lookin' for a bargain! But for deck work, I'd go with a pair of 9-inch linesman's pliers and a good pry bar. You don't really need fancy pliers for most nails - a hammer and a cat's paw will do more. But if you want one tool, get a quality pair of Knipex cobra pliers - they grip like crazy and can twist wire without mangling. They're my go-to for everything.

Thanks for the input, fellas. I'll check out the Channellock and maybe those Knipex if I can find 'em on sale. Reckon I'll avoid the cheapo ones - aching hands ain't worth savin' a few bucks. Appreciate the help!
