So I'm in the market for a new set of linesman pliers. I've been using my old Knipex for years, but they're getting worn out. I've narrowed it down to the DeWalt linesman pliers (DWHT70297) vs the Makita ones (B-66720). Any of you guys have experience with either? I'm a garage mechanic, so I need something that can take a beating cutting wires and twisting nuts. Price wise they're close, so that's not a issue.

I've got the Makitas and they're solid. The grip is real comfy even when my hands get sweaty. Cutting multi-strand copper is a breeze. But I've heard DeWalt's have a slightly harder edge so they hold up better on steel wire. imo you can't go wrong with either, it's more about feel. You should try them in store if you can.

If you're on a budget like me, I'd actually look at the Craftsman line or even Harbor Freight's Doyle brand. I've been using a $15 pair of Pittsburghs for 2 years and they still cut fine. But if you gotta have red or yellow, I'd say go Makita for the warranty. I heard DeWalt's customer service is a pain.

Thanks guys! Pete, good to know about the grip. Larry, I get the budget thing but I'm willing to spend a bit more for quality. I might just flip a coin at this point lol. Anyone else have opinions?

One more thing – the Makita's have that little wire cutter on the side for scoring a lot cleaner. If you do any electrical work, that's a game changer. DeWalt's don't have that on thier linesmans.
