Hey all, I'm in the market for a new set of linesman pliers. I've been using cheap ones for years and they're finally shot. I'm torn between the DeWalt and Makita offerings. Anyone have experience with either? I do a lot of electrical work and some general DIY.

I've got a pair of the DeWalt 8-inch linesmans. They were on sale for like $20 at Home Depot. So far so good after a year, but I'm just a hobbyist. The grip is comfortable and the cutting edge still sharp. Can't beat the price if you find a deal.

Makita all the way for me. I restore old machinery and need precision. Their pliers have a tighter joint and better heat treatment on the cutting edges. The DeWalt ones I've used felt a little sloppy after a few months. But if you're just doing basic stuff, maybe save your cash.

If you care about precision, go Makita. I measured the jaw gap on both brands and the Makita was consistently 0.5mm tighter. That matters for gripping small parts. DeWalt is fine for rough work but Makita is more consistent. Also check out Knipex if you want the best, but they cost more.

Thanks for the input guys. I think I'll go with Makita since I do a lot of detailed work. The price difference isn't that big. Appreciate the help!
