Harley Tool Kits: Still Included or Cheap Out?

Saw this article today: 'Do Harley-Davidson Motorcycles Still Come With A Tool Kit?' Basically says that for decades, buying a new bike meant checking under the seat for a factory tool kit, but now it's not so clear. What do you guys think? Are they still including them or have they cheapened out? I'm not a Harley guy myself, but I'm curious about the state of included tools in general. Link: [article]

I ride a 2018 Street Glide and mine came with a small tool kit under the seat. It's pretty basic though – a couple of wrenches, hex keys, and a screwdriver. Not much you can do with it beyond tightening mirrors or battery terminals. But hey, it's better than nothing. I've heard newer ones might not have them? That would suck. For the price of these bikes, they should include a decent kit.

I'm not a Harley owner, but I do a lot of woodworking and DIY, and I've noticed that a lot of products these days skimp on included tools. Even some high-end furniture comes with those cheap Allen wrenches that strip if you look at them wrong. It's a shame. For motorcycles, a good tool kit can save your butt on the side of the road. I'd rather have a basic kit than nothing. But if Harley is cutting corners, that's just disappointing. Maybe they figure most riders take it to the dealer anyway?

I'm all about saving money, so I'd just put together my own kit from Harbor Freight. Why pay extra for a branded tool kit when you can customize one for cheaper? But I get it – if you're buying a new Harley, you expect it to come with everything. I remember my dad's old Shovelhead had a pretty comprehensive kit. Times have changed, I guess. Anyone know if the new ones actually have them? I'm curious now.
