Hey everyone, I'm planning to build a 12x20 deck next month. I've got most of the tools but I'm lacking in the pliers department. What pliers do you recommend for a deck build? I'll need to cut and twist wire, maybe grab some nails, and do general gripping. Budget is around $50. Thanks!

Dave, for a deck build you can't go wrong with a good set of lineman's pliers and a pair of side cutters. I use Klein tools, they're pricey but last forever. For twisting wire, lineman's pliers are perfect. Also grab a pair of slip-joint pliers for grabbing things. That'll cover most of your needs.

I'm with Felix on quality. For precise work like cutting wire flush or holding small fasteners, I'd add a pair of needle-nose pliers. Make sure they have a good grip and a spring-loaded opener. I've had my Snap-on set for years. But if you're on a budget, check out Channellock - they make solid mid-range stuff.

I feel you on the budget, Dave. You don't need to drop $100 on pliers. Look for a 3-piece set from Husky or Kobalt at Home Depot. They usually run around $30-$40 and include lineman's, needle-nose, and side cutters. That's plenty for a DIY deck. I've used them for years on my projects.
