Hey all, I'm pretty new to DIY and just got a set of pliers from a big box store. When I squeeze them, there's this weird click sound and sometimes they slip. It's super annoying and I'm worried they might be defective. Any tips? I don't wanna return them if it's something simple.

That click could be the rivet or joint. Check if there's any play in the pivot. If it's loose, you might be able to tighten it with a hammer and punch, but be careful not to overdo it. Also, make sure the jaws aren't misaligned. If they are, return them. Cheap pliers often have poor QC.

If they're from a big box store, they're probably not the best quality. I only use Craftsman pliers, never had that issue. But since you're starting out, try lubricating the joint with a drop of oil. Sometimes that helps with weird noises. If not, just return them and get a better brand.

Thanks guys. I'll try the oil first. If that doesn't work, I'll return them. I did notice some play in the joint, so maybe it's just loose. I'll see if I can tighten it carefully. Appreciate the help!

No problem. Just don't force it if it's not budging. You can also try squeezing them a few times to see if it's just a burr. If it persists, definitely return. Good luck!
