Safety glasses with pliers? A must or overkill?

Hey all, just a quick tip: When you're snipping wire or cutting zip ties with pliers, always wear safety glasses. I had a piece of wire fly up last week and almost got my eye. Not worth the risk! Anyone else had close calls?

Great reminder, Sam. I always wear glasses even when just cutting thin stuff. I’ve seen guys lose an eye to a spring or a chunk of metal. PPE is cheap, eyes aren’t.

I’m with you both. I use my Knipex cutters all day and always have safety glasses on. It’s just habit now. For the new guys, get some anti-fog ones, it makes a huge diff in the heat.

Solid advice. I’ll add: when cutting heavy gauge wire, use diagonal cutters with a guard or at least angle the cut away from your face. And don't forget gloves—pliers can slip and knuckles are tender.

Good point Mark! I had a pair of slip joint pliers close on my hand once cuz I was using them wrong. Leather gloves help a ton. Stay safe out there!
