Hey folks, DIY dad here tearing down my old deck to rebuild. Got a bunch of rusted screws that won't budge with my regular pliers - they just strip. Tried some cheap needle-nose but they bent. What should I use to pull these suckers out without wrecking the wood? My back's already killing me lol.

Vise-Grips. End of story. Get the 10WR if you're doing a whole deck - locking mechanism won't slip, jaws bite through rust. Don't waste time with adjustable pliers. Heat 'em with a torch first if they're really seized. Pro tip: replace with coated screws next time.

Paul's right about Vise-Grips for most, but if they're recessed or in tight spots, I'd go with a good pair of lineman's pliers - the side cutters can grab what's left after you snap the heads off. Knipex makes ones that won't destroy your hands after 50 screws. Also, PB Blaster is your friend here, Rick!

Thanks both! Vise-Grips ordered. Wendy - never thought of snapping the heads, that's clever. My neighbor's a sparky, maybe he'll lend me his lineman's until mine arrive. Praying this saves my weekend project from becoming a 'call a pro' situation haha.
