Hey everyone, I'm looking to upgrade my pliers set and can't decide between Milwaukee and DeWalt. I'm a general contractor doing a bit of everything - electrical, plumbing, framing. Need something that can handle daily abuse but also comfortable for long hours. Anyone here use either brand daily? Looking for real-world pros/cons, not just specs from the box. Thanks!

OP, I'm HVAC all day every day. Been using Milwaukee lineman's pliers for 3 years now. The grips are solid - don't get slippery when you're sweating on a roof in July. Cut through 6/2 wire like butter. Only complaint: the spring in the handles wore out after about 18 months, but Milwaukee warranty replaced them no questions. Tried DeWalt once - felt cheaper in hand, like the steel wasn't as thick. For HVAC work where you're twisting copper and cutting refrigerant lines, Milwaukee wins hands down.

Landscape architect here - different perspective maybe. I use pliers mostly for irrigation systems and occasional fence work. DeWalt's been perfect for me. Lighter than Milwaukee, which matters when you're carrying tools across sites all day. The diagonal cutters especially - clean cuts on drip line every time. Plus the yellow handles are easier to spot in grass when you drop them (happens more than I'd like to admit!). If you're doing heavy-duty electrical all day, maybe listen to PipePaul, but for mixed use? DeWalt's more versatile IMO.

Another HVAC tech checking in. Gotta agree with PipePaul on Milwaukee for our trade. The insulation on their linesman pliers saved my butt more than once when working live (not that we're supposed to, but you know how it goes). DeWalt feels like it's made for carpenters, not sparkies. That said - if you're doing mostly plumbing, Milwaukee's water pump pliers are garbage. Get Knipex for that. Mix and match brands, man. No rule says you gotta stick with one color.

Thanks all! This is exactly what I needed - real experiences. Sounds like Milwaukee for electrical/HVAC work, DeWalt for lighter/general use. Luke's point about mixing brands makes sense too. Might start with Milwaukee linesman and see how they hold up. Appreciate the input!
