Hey everyone, I'm planning to clean and restore my deck this weekend. It's about 400 sq ft, some mildew and old stain. I've never owned a pressure washer before. Should I go electric or gas? Any specific models you'd rec? Budget under $300 if possible. Thanks!

For deck cleaning, electric is usually plenty. Less maint and quieter. I'd look at the Sun Joe SPX3000. It's like $150, has good pressure and two tanks for soap. Used mine on my deck last year, came out great. Just use a surface cleaner attachment to avoid streaks.

I gotta agree with Will. Electric is the way to go for a deck. Gas is overkill and noisy. I snagged a Ryobi 1,800 PSI from Home Depot on sale for $200. Works fine. But if you can stretch the budget, the DeWalt DWPW2400 is solid. Or go cheap and rent one if it's a one-time job.

Thanks guys! I was leaning electric but worried it wouldn't be strong enough. Sun Joe sounds like a good buy. Will, what surface cleaner did you use? Any particular tips for the stain removal? Should I use a special detergent?

I used the Sun Joe SPX-APS1 surface cleaner, fits the SPX3000. For detergent, I mixed Simple Green Pro HD with water. Spray, let sit 5 min, then rinse. Worked great. Avoid bleach-based stuff, can damage wood. Also, keep the nozzle moving and don't get too close. Test on a hidden spot first.
