Hey folks, got a Karcher K5 that's been solid for 2 years. Now it runs for like 5 minutes then just dies. No odd noises, no leaks. I have to wait 10 mins before it'll start again. Any ideas? I'm stumped.

Could be thermal overload. Does the motor feel hot when it cuts out? If so, might be a clogged cooling fan or bad capacitor. Also check your water supply – if it's restricted, the pump works harder and overheats. I had a similar issue with a cheap Chinese unit, turned out to be a kinked hose.

Yeah, sounds like thermal cutout. Paul, are you using an extension cord? If it's too long or thin gauge, voltage drop can cause overheating. Try plugging directly into an outlet with a heavy-duty cord. Also, is the water inlet filter clean? That's a common culprit.

Safety first! Before you go poking around, unplug it and let it cool completely. Those capacitors hold a charge. Also, check for any signs of burning or melted wires – if you see that, stop and replace the unit. DIY repairs on pressure washers can be dangerous if you don't know what you're doing. Stay safe!

Thanks guys. No extension cord, direct outlet. The filter was a bit gunked up – cleaned it, but still cut out. Motor is hot though. I'll check the fan and capacitor next. Appreciate the tips!
