PSA: Don't Skip the Safety Glasses When Using a Pressure Washer!

Just had a close call today. Was using my pressure washer to clean the driveway and a piece of debris flew up and hit my safety glasses. If I hadn't been wearing them, that would've been my eye. I know it's tempting to skip the PPE when it's a quick job, but trust me, it's not worth it. What do you guys use for eye protection? Any recommendations for goggles that don't fog up?

Good on you for wearing them, Rick. I've been restoring decks and siding for years, and I always wear a full-face shield now. I learned the hard way - got hit in the cheek once and it left a nasty bruise. As for fogging, I use anti-fog wipes on my goggles, works like a charm. Also, make sure you're using the right nozzle for the job - wider angle means less kickback.

Man, that's scary! I'm glad you're okay. I'll admit I'm one of those guys who sometimes skips the glasses when I'm just doing a quick wash. But after reading this, I'm gonna start wearing them. I have a pair of cheap safety glasses that fit over my prescription glasses, but they fog up like crazy. Maybe I'll try that anti-fog spray Chris mentioned. Stay safe out there!

Great advice, Rick. I always tell people to treat a pressure washer like a high-speed water jet - it can cut through wood, so imagine what it can do to skin! I use a face shield AND safety glasses, along with gloves and steel-toe boots if I'm doing a lot of work. And make sure your gear is rated for high impact. Not all safety glasses are created equal.
