Saw this news about ACT Energy buying SB Directional. Doesn't directly affect us DIYers but figured it might mean more competition in directional drilling. Anyone ever used either company's tools? I'm curious if this'll trickle down to consumer prices.

I've worked with SB Directional on a few commercial jobs. They make solid directional drill rigs, but their stuff is way out of our league price-wise. ACT Energy is a big player in oilfield services, so probably just expanding. Won't affect us little guys IMO.

Rick, I doubt this changes anything for homeowners. Those are industrial machines costing hundreds of thousands. If you're thinking about renting one for a big project, maybe look at Ditch Witch instead. Cheaper and more common at rental yards.

Yeah, you're right Sarah. Was just daydreaming about trenching my driveway without ripping it up. Guess I'll stick to renting a mini trencher for now. Thanks for the reality check!

Haha no worries Rick. If you ever win the lottery, call me and we'll buy an SB rig and dig holes for fun. Until then, keep that trencher rental on speed dial.
