Hey guys, been using my old Dremel for ages but want to step up to a cordless rotary tool for small trim and sanding jobs. Can't decide between the DeWalt DCS438B and the Makita XRT01Z. Any advice? I mainly do baseboards and crown molding.

I retired from carpentry a few years back, but I've had my Makita for 5 years and it's still going strong. The variable speed trigger is great for control. Only downside is the battery life if you're using it all day. DeWalt's is lighter though, which helps on ladders.

Safety first, Will! Both are solid, but I'd lean toward DeWalt because of the LED light and the Quick-Change collet. Less fiddling means less risk of dropping it while up high. Plus, the dust-sealed switch is nice for drywall dust.

Thanks guys! Felix, is the Makita's collet good for small bits? I've heard some complaints. Dan, the LED does sound handy. I'm leaning DeWalt now, but my Makita drill has been bulletproof.

Yeah, the Makita collet can be a PITA with tiny bits if you overtighten it. Use the wrench carefully. But once you get it, it's fine. DeWalt's collet is more forgiving. Honestly, you won't go wrong with either. Get whichever fits your battery system.
