DeWalt vs Makita rotary tool - which one won't break the bank?

Hey guys, I'm in the market for a rotary tool and I've narrowed it down to DeWalt or Makita. I'm on a pretty tight budget so I wanna make sure I get the best bang for my buck. Mostly gonna use it for small DIY projects around the house, cutting screws, sanding, maybe some light metal work. Which brand do you think gives more value? I've heard DeWalt is cheaper but Makita lasts longer. Any input appreciated!

I've got the DeWalt Dremel-style rotary tool (the 3000 series I think?) and it's been a tank for the price. Got it on sale for like 70 bucks. Used it to cut through bolts, grind down rust, even polished my truck's rims. The accessories that come with it are decent but you'll wanna buy a bigger kit eventually. Makita is nice but unless you're using it daily, DeWalt is fine for the weekend warrior. Just my 2 cents.

Man, I'm gonna have to disagree. I've been a Makita guy for 15 years and their rotary tools are no joke. Yeah they cost a bit more upfront, but my Makita has outlasted two DeWalt tools I've had. The motor is smoother and the variable speed dial is more precise. If you're on a budget though, maybe check out the Makita 9557PB? It's a angle grinder but can do a lot of the same stuff. But if you're set on rotary, save up for the Makita. Buy once, cry once.

I'm with Tim on this one. I've got the Makita GD0601 and it's a beast. But honestly, for occasional DIY, you might not need either. Have you looked at the Harbor Freight special? I know, I know, but for a budget-conscious guy, it might do the trick. That said, if you're set on the two brands, Makita all the way. My dad's Makita from the 90s still runs. DeWalt is good but it's not the same since they moved production overseas. Just my opinion though!

Thanks for the replies! I think I'm leaning towards the DeWalt since I can get it locally and it's on sale right now. But SocketSarah, you got me curious about Harbor Freight. I might check that out first. Appreciate the help!
