DeWalt vs Makita Rotary Tools: Which One Should I Get?

Hey everyone, I'm in the market for a new rotary tool and I'm stuck between DeWalt and Makita. I do a lot of home improvement projects - sanding, polishing, cutting tile, etc. I've seen some reviews but still can't decide. Does anyone have experience with either? Which one has better precision and control?

Precision is key, right? I've used both. The Makita has a variable speed dial that's super smooth, from 10k to 30k RPM. And the chuck holds bits with zero wobble. DeWalt is no slouch but the speed control feels a bit choppy at low RPMs. For detailed work like engraving, Makita takes the cake.

I'm a woodworking guy, so I mainly use it for sanding and carving. DeWalt's quick-change collet is a lifesaver when switching between accessories. I timed it - I can swap bits in under 5 seconds. Makita's takes a bit more fiddling. But Makita's built-in LED is brighter, which helps in tight spots.

Been a carpenter for 35 years, used lots of tools. Makita is my go-to for any handheld, including rotary. The build quality is solid - dropped mine off a ladder and it still runs like new. DeWalt feels plasticky to me. Plus, Makita's 3-year warranty is a big plus. Tim, if you want durability and precision, go Makita.
