Hey all, came across this article about ACT Energy buying SB Directional. Seems like a big move in the oil patch. But I'm wondering if this affects us regular guys who use rotary tools for DIY? Do these drilling firms use anything like our Dremels? Or is this just corporate stuff? Thoughts?

Interesting post! I doubt it directly impacts us hobbyists. Those directional drilling rigs use huge motors and hydraulics, not little rotary tools. But I guess if ACT expands, maybe they'll need more local machine shops for parts? Could create some side work for folks with metalworking skills. Just a thought.

Back in my day, we used rotary tools for everything from polishing fittings to cutting gaskets. These big companies? They use specialized gear. But mergers like this can affect supply chains. If they consolidate, local suppliers might lose business. That could make it harder to find oddball bits for our tools. Keep an eye on it.

I restore old machinery, and I've seen how corporate acquisitions trickle down. If ACT is buying up directional drilling firms, they're probably after tech or contracts. For the DIY crowd, don't expect any changes in rotary tool availability. But if you're into directional drilling for horizontal boring on your property (like for conduit), this might mean more competition for services. Not really our realm though. Still, good to know who's who in the oilfield.
