Found a Dremel 4000 at a garage sale for $40 - worth it?

So I was at a garage sale this morning and spotted a Dremel 4000 with a bunch of accessories in a case. The guy wanted $40, I talked him down to $30. It looks barely used. Is this a good deal? I've been wanting a rotary tool for some detail work on furniture and maybe some light metal grinding. Any thoughts?

Dude, that's a steal! The 4000 is one of the best variable speed models. I've had mine for years, use it for everything from sharpening mower blades to cutting tiles. Check the chuck and make sure it spins smoothly, but at that price, even if you need to buy a new chuck, you're still way ahead. Congrats!

Thanks for the tips! I think I'll start with some detail sanding on an old picture frame I'm restoring. Also might try some engraving on a metal plate for fun. I'll make sure to watch the temperature.

One more thing - check if it comes with the collet wrench and if the collets are clean. If they're dirty, clean 'em with some rubbing alcohol. You don't want bits slipping on you. And post a pic of your first project!
