Need advice: rotary tool for cutting deck boards? Which one?

Hey everyone, I'm building a new deck next month and I'm looking for a rotary tool to help with cutting boards, trimming, and maybe some sanding. I've got a budget of around $100. Any recommendations? I've seen Dremel and Rotozip but not sure which is better for deck work. Also, what attachments do I need? Thanks!

For deck work, you need something with power. Dremel is okay for small stuff but if you're cutting deck boards, you'll burn it out. I'd go with a DeWalt rotary tool if you can stretch your budget. I've had mine for 3 years and it's a beast. But honestly, for deck boards, a circular saw is better. Rotary tools are more for detail work. What exactly are you cutting?

I've been a carpenter for 30 years and I'll tell you: rotary tools are handy but not for deck boards. You'll spend more time changing bits than cutting. If you're set on a rotary tool, get a corded one with adjustable speed. Dremel 4300 is good. But for deck, use a circular saw for cuts and a rotary tool for notching and trimming. Just my 2 cents.

I've got both a Dremel and a Rotozip. Rotozip is more for drywall and tile. For deck, I'd use a Dremel with a cutting wheel for small cuts, but you'll go through wheels like crazy. If you're doing a whole deck, rent a circular saw or buy a cheap one. Rotary tool is a nice-to-have, not a must-have. But if you want one, get the Dremel 4000 series. It's versatile.

Thanks for the replies. I already have a circular saw for the main cuts. I was thinking rotary tool for cutting out notches for joists and maybe sanding tight spots. So maybe a Dremel is the way to go? I'll check out the 4300. Appreciate the help!
