PSA: Don't skip safety glasses with rotary tools - my close call

Hey all, just had a scary moment using my dremel to cut a rusty bolt. I was in a hurry and didn't put on my safety glasses. A tiny fragment flew off and hit me right in the eye. Luckily it was just a scratch on my eyelid, but it could've been much worse. I know we all think it won't happen to us, but seriously, always wear your PPE. Even for quick jobs. Anyone else have a close call?

Good reminder, Paul. I'm a stickler for safety - I even wear a face shield over my glasses when using cutoff wheels. The force those little discs spin at, you don't want any of that in your face. Also, make sure you're using the right accessory for the material. A worn or wrong disc can shatter and cause a bigger mess. Stay safe out there!

I hear you, but I gotta say, good safety gear doesn't have to break the bank. I got a 3-pack of cheap safety glasses from the hardware store for like $5 and they work fine. I also invested in a $20 face shield because my eyes are priceless. That's less than the price of a pack of blades. Just a thought.

Absolutely! On the job, we have a strict PPE policy - no exceptions. Even a simple grinding task can send sparks or debris. And it's not just eyes - dust masks or respirators are key when cutting materials that can create harmful dust. I've seen too many guys skip the mask and end up with breathing issues.
