Hey guys, my cordless rotary tool (Ryobi 18V) won't charge. The battery light just blinks when I put it in the charger. I've had it for about a year, not heavy use. Any ideas?

Sounds like the battery's BMS (battery management system) is locked up. Try leaving it on the charger for an hour, sometimes it resets. If not, you might need a new battery. Ryobi's have a known issue with the contacts too - check if they're dirty.

I've had that happen with my old Craftsman. Sometimes the charger goes bad. Do you have another battery to test the charger? Or try the battery on a friend's charger. Also, make sure the battery isn't too hot or cold - those BMS stop charging if temp is off.

Safety first: if the battery is swollen or smells weird, don't mess with it. Toss it properly. But if it's just blinking, try the reset Gary mentioned. Also, some chargers have a 'refresh' mode - hold the button? Check manual. I've revived a few by discharging them fully in a flashlight then recharging.

Thanks guys, I'll try leaving it on the charger for an hour and clean the contacts. I don't have another battery unfortunately. If that doesn't work, I'll probably just buy a new one. Appreciate the help!
