Rotary Tool Safety: Don't Skip the Goggles!

Hey guys, quick question. I've been using my rotary tool for some small jobs around the garage, and I keep forgetting to wear safety goggles. I know I should, but it's annoying. What do you all use for eye protection? Any tips to remember?

Larry, don't mess around with that. I've seen too many close calls on job sites. Even a tiny debris can wreck your eye. I use the full-face shield when doing heavy cutting, but for quick tasks, I have a pair of safety glasses I hang right next to my rotary tool. Out of sight, out of mind, just put them right there. Also, consider the kind with foam around the eyes to keep dust out.

I feel you, Larry831. I used to skip them too until I got a piece of carbide bit stuck in my cheek. Lucky it wasn't the eye. Now I keep a spare pair in my pocket. And I always have a pair of clear glasses for indoor and tinted for outside. Habit is key. Maybe buy a cheap pair and leave them on your workbench.

Thanks guys! I'll do that. I actually have a pair of safety glasses kicking around, I'll just put them right next to the Dremel. Also, do you recommend any particular brand that doesn't fog up?

Fogging is a pain. I use one of those anti-fog wipes, but also make sure they fit well. I like the 3M ones with a foam seal, they don't fog as much. But for rotary tools, a face shield is honestly the best for heavy grinding. Stay safe!
