Hey Tool Discount Club fam - I'm building a cedar deck with some custom lattice panels between the railings. Need to notch out small sections of the 2x2 cedar balusters for the lattice to fit flush. Should I use my old corded Dremel 4000 with router attachment or spring for the Milwaukee M12 rotary tool? Mostly working outdoors with extension cords available. Don't want to burn up the wood or take forever on 40+ balusters. Thanks!

Dave - Milwaukee all day. The M12 Fuel has way more torque than any Dremel, won't bog down in cedar. Use a 1/4" straight router bit, make multiple shallow passes. Cordless means no tripping hazard on deck. Buy the kit with 2 batteries - you'll drain one fast on 40 pieces. Pro tip: clamp balusters in pairs to save time.

Tim's right about Milwaukee but HEY - wear safety glasses! Cedar splinters flying at 30,000 RPM will ruin your week. Also consider a dust mask - cedar dust isn't fun to breathe. If you go corded, use a GFCI outlet. Seen too many guys get zipped on outdoor projects.

LOL Steve always with the safety lecture! But yeah Milwaukee is better for pro work. My HVAC guys use them for cutting vent holes in drywall and notching studs. The Dremel's fine for hobby stuff but you'll hate life after 10 balusters. Check TDC's coupon section - they had M12 kits 20% off last week.

Thanks everyone! Milwaukee it is - just ordered the M12 Fuel kit. Steve, already got my PPE ready (learned that lesson carving a pumpkin with a rotary tool last Halloween...). Paul, coupon still worked - saved $45! Will post pics when the deck's done.
