Hey guys, new to woodworking and looking for a good random orbital sander. Can't decide between DeWalt DWE6423 and Makita BO5041K. Which one would you recommend for a hobbyist? I'll mostly be doing shelves and small furniture.

I've used both. The Makita is smoother and has better dust collection out of the box. DeWalt is a bit more powerful but vibrates more. For a beginner, I'd say Makita – it's easier to control and leaves a nicer finish without much effort.

Totally disagree. The DeWalt is built tougher and has a longer cord. I've had my DWE6423 for 3 years and it still runs like new. Makita's pad is weirdly shaped and harder to find replacement paper for. Go DeWalt.

I've had both. Honestly, you won't go wrong with either. But if you plan to use it a lot, get the Makita – it's quieter and your hands won't feel numb after an hour. The DeWalt is fine for occasional use though. Also check if you can get a deal on a combo kit.
