Hey guys, I'm torn between the DeWalt DWE6423 and the Makita BO5041K for my home woodworking projects. I need something that handles fine finishing but also can strip paint occasionally. Any thoughts? Price isn't a huge issue, but I want good value.

I've had both. The Makita is smoother and more durable IMHO. DeWalt has better dust collection out of the box though. If you're doing a lot of sanding, go Makita. It'll last forever.

I'm just an apprentice but I've used the DeWalt at work. It feels solid but the noise is annoying. Heard Makita is quieter. What about warranty? DeWalt's is 3 years, right?

Thanks guys! I'm leaning Makita now. Steve, does the Makita handle variable speed well? I want it for both heavy stock removal and final finishing.
