Hey guys, I just started sanding some old pine boards and the dust is crazy. I got a cheap dust mask but I'm wondering if I should upgrade to a respirator? Don't want to mess up my lungs.

Definitely go with a respirator. I use a half-face with P100 filters for everything. Dust masks leak like a sieve. Your lungs will thank you.

What Paul said. I've been a carpenter for 40+ years, wish I wore one from the start. Also, hook up a vac to your sander if you can. Keeps the air cleaner.

I'll add: make sure it fits! Even a good respirator won't help if it's loose. I do the seal check every time. And don't forget eye protection - dust in the eyes hurts like hell.
