PSA: Don't skimp on safety glasses when sanding

So I was sanding some oak yesterday, and a chunk flew off and hit my safety glasses. Good thing I had them on, otherwise I'd be eating a splinter. Just a reminder to always wear your PPE, especially eye protection. Its not worth losing an eye over a DIY project.

Hear that! I always use a face shield when doing heavy sanding. Those dust particles are no joke. I also wear a respirator, not just a dust mask. You don't want that fine dust in your lungs.

Yeah, but those fancy respirators cost a bunch. I just use a bandana over my mouth and some cheap goggles. Works fine for me. But hey, to each their own.

Bob, I get the budget thing, but trust me, a good respirator is worth the money. I had a buddy who got silicosis from sanding without one. That's not a fun way to go. You can get a decent one for like 30 bucks, that's less than a couple of trips to Starbucks.

Exactly. And also, make sure your safety glasses are rated for impact. Some cheap ones aren't. I had a piece of metal hit mine and they cracked, but didn't shatter. That could've been my eye.
