DeWalt vs Makita Circular Saw: Which One Should I Buy?

Hey everyone, I'm looking to upgrade my circular saw. I've been using a cheap one from Harbor Freight and it's just not cutting it (pun intended). I'm torn between the DeWalt DWE575 and the Makita 5007MG. Any thoughts? I mostly do framing and sheathing, but also some finish work. Appreciate any advice!

I've owned both, and for precision cuts, the Makita is the way to go. The magnesium base is flatter and stays true, and the bevel adjustments are more accurate. The DeWalt is a workhorse, don't get me wrong, but if you're into fine woodworking, the Makita's build quality is superior. Also, the Makita has a smoother start and less vibration, which helps with accuracy.

I'm a Makita guy for life, but I'll be the first to say the DeWalt is no slouch. The 515W (or whatever model you're looking at) has great power and dust collection is better. But for pure durability, Makita takes the cake. I've dropped my 5007 from a ladder onto concrete and it still runs perfectly. Also, look into the blade - a good blade makes a huge difference. Don't skimp on that.

Both are solid, but think about your ecosystem. If you're already invested in Dewalt batteries and tools, stick with that. But if you're starting fresh, I'd lean Makita for the track record. I've been using my Makita for 20 years, still going strong. One thing: the Dewalt has a nice electric brake, which Makita doesn't have on the 5007. That's a safety plus if you're doing a lot of cuts.
