Alright folks, I'm in the market for a new 7-1/4" circular saw. I've got my eye on the DeWalt DWE575 and the Makita 5007MG. I do a lot of restoration work on old houses, so I need something that can handle framing but also some precise trim work. Any experience with these? I'm leaning toward the Makita for the magnesium build, but the DeWalt has good reviews too. What do you guys think?

Don't forget about safety! Both are solid saws, but make sure whatever you get has an electric brake and a good blade guard. I've seen too many accidents with cheap saws. The Makita has a better blade visibility from the top, which helps with tracking. But DeWalt's newer models have better dust collection. Check the blade guards on both at the store before buying.

I've used both extensively. For precision, the Makita is king. It's lighter, the base plate is flatter, and the depth adjustment is more precise. The DeWalt is a workhorse but a bit heavier and the base sometimes warps if you drop it. If you're doing restoration, you'll appreciate the Makita for trim work. Plus the Makita's blade is on the left side, which helps with line of sight if you're right-handed. Just my two cents.

I'm a Makita fan girl, but I'll be objective. The DeWalt has a more powerful motor on paper (15A vs 13A in the Makita), but honestly you won't notice unless you're cutting thick hardwood all day. For restoration, the Makita's lighter weight is a game changer when you're on a ladder or working overhead. Also, the Makita's magnesium shoe is less prone to corrosion. But check the price; Makita's are usually $40-50 more. If it's in your budget, go Makita.

Thanks guys! I think I'll go with the Makita. The weight and precision win me over. And safety features sound solid. Appreciate the advice!
