DeWalt vs Makita: Which 18V Circular Saw Should I Get?

Hey all, I'm in the market for a new 18V circular saw. I've been using a corded one for years, but I'm ready to go cordless. I've narrowed it down to the DeWalt DCS570 and the Makita XSR01. I mostly do weekend DIY stuff - framing, cutting plywood, maybe some deck work. I want something that will last and won't break the bank. Which one do you guys think? I've heard DeWalt has a better brake, but Makita has a better feel. Any advice?

I feel ya, @DIYDave660. I was in the same boat last year. I went with the DeWalt because I found a deal on a kit with a free battery. But honestly, the Makita is lighter and more compact. If you ain't got a ton of dough, check refurb options. I got a refurb Makita for my hubby and it's been solid. Also, think about what other tools you might get later - if you're already invested in one battery system, stick with that. Otherwise, handle both in store and see what feels right.

As a collector, I have both. The DeWalt is a beast, but the Makita XSR01 is smoother and has a built-in dust blower that actually works. The brake on the Makita is just as good, don't let marketing fool ya. For DIY, you can't go wrong with either. But if you're on a budget, check the Makita XSS02 - it's the subcompact, cheaper, and plenty for cutting 2x4s. Plus, Makita has a huge range of tools, so you'll grow into the system. Just my two cents.

Thanks guys, appreciate the input. I think I'm leaning Makita after reading. The weight matters for me since I'll be on a ladder sometimes. Also, the dust blower sounds nice. I'll see if I can find a deal on the XSR01 or maybe the subcompact to save some cash. Thanks again!
