PSA: Don't skip the safety glasses, even for a quick cut

Hey all, just wanted to share a quick reminder. Yesterday I was doing a quick cut with my circular saw, just a piece of plywood, and I didn't bother with safety glasses. Big mistake. A splinter flew off and hit me right in the eye. It hurt like hell, and I had to go to urgent care to get it flushed out. Luckily no permanent damage, but it could have been so much worse. Please, always wear your PPE, even for the 'quick' jobs. It takes 2 seconds to put on glasses, but a lifetime to regret not wearing them.

Dude, glad you're okay! I've had too many close calls myself. I always have a pair of safety glasses in my tool bag now, and I wear them even when just measuring or marking. It's a habit that pays off. Also, make sure they're ANSI Z87 rated. Some cheap ones fog up or scratch but they still protect.

I'm guilty of this too. When I'm under a sink or in a tight spot, glasses are the first thing to come off. But after seeing a guy get a metal shard in his eye on a job site, I never go without them. Even with a face shield, I wear my safety glasses underneath. You only get one pair of eyes!

Totally agree, Dan. I'd also suggest wearing a full face shield when using a table saw or miter saw, especially for dado cuts or anything that throws a lot of debris. And don't forget hearing protection too! I've been around saws so long my ears ring, so protect your ears as well.
