Scored a Dewalt DWE575 at a garage sale - did I get a steal?

So I'm driving around this morning and see a garage sale. I stop to browse and there it is, a Dewalt DWE575 circular saw, barely used, with a couple of extra blades. The guy wanted $40! I talked him down to $30. Can't believe I got it for that price. Is this saw any good? I'm mostly a weekend warrior, cutting 2x4s and plywood, but I wanted something beefier than my old worm drive that weighs a ton.

Nice find, Wendy! That's a solid saw. I've had one for years, thing's a workhorse. At that price it's a no-brainer. Make sure you check the blade guard and that the brake works, but for $30, even if you have to put a little TLC into it, you're still way ahead. I use mine for all sorts of framing and it's never let me down. The DWE575 is lighter than the worm drive you had, so your arms will thank you. Good deal!

I've heard good things about the DWE575, but also some complaints about the blade guard sticking. If you find it's not retracting smoothly, a drop of oil on the pivot points usually fixes it. Also, check the base plate for flatness with a square if you're doing fine carpentry. But for 30 bucks, you could resell it for double and buy something else if you don't like it. Enjoy!

I'm a woodworking hobbyist and I own the DWE575 as my job site saw. It's not a cabinet saw, but for crosscuts and ripping sheet goods, it's great. The 15-amp motor has plenty of power, and the dust port is decent. For $30, you got a steal. I paid $130 for mine. Just remember to use a sharp blade - that makes a huge difference. Also, check that the bevel and depth adjustments are smooth. And if you're doing fine work, maybe invest in a good combo blade. But honestly, you scored.
